Dr. Vishal Kinkhabwala always knew he wanted a career rooted in service—one that challenged him to think critically while making a meaningful impact. That drive led him to medicine. His time at Avalon University shaped his approach to problem-solving and resilience, equipping him with the tools to push forward despite obstacles. “Avalon University gave me the skills I needed to work hard despite setbacks and challenges, be creative in my approach while maintaining critical thinking, and the skills to network and realize that we as professionals are not solitary beings but are truly meant to collaborate,” he says. Adapting his study methods for different courses was one of his biggest challenges, but through trial and error, he discovered what worked for him and ultimately found success.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Kinkhabwala built lasting friendships and unforgettable memories in Curaçao. “Some of the best times at Avalon were spent either at Mambo Beach or at Boat Fries—memories I cherish to this day,” he shares. Now working in public health, he finds fulfillment in using his medical knowledge to improve the health and well-being of communities worldwide. The lessons he learned at Avalon—critical thinking, adaptability, and collaboration—continue to shape his approach to medicine and problem-solving.
Outside of his career, he stays active and engaged with hobbies like tennis, learning languages, traveling, cooking, working out, and hiking. To current Avalon students, he offers simple but powerful advice: “Always stay curious and don’t take setbacks as final—keep working hard and you WILL find a way to achieve your dreams!” If he could give his younger self any advice, it would be to embrace every challenge head-on. “Don’t be afraid of adversity—learn to tackle it head-on and take every moment, good or bad, as a blessing.” Looking back, he is grateful for the journey that shaped him into the physician he is today.
