Update about Avalon Grads

What is the true measure of success?

Is it high test scores, personal satisfaction, completing your daily checklist? The truth is, that how an individual or group individuals measures success is a personal decision and is based on the mission and values of that person or group.

Here at Avalon University School of Medicine (AUSOM), we measure our success as an institution based on the success of our students and graduates. YOUR success is OUR success. With this in mind, it makes sense that we LOVE to talk about our graduates and their amazing accomplishments and to highlight our current AUSOM students who take time out of their studies to be AWESOME.

Learn more about Avalon Graduates, who are awesome out there.

Whether it is our graduates excelling in their field and achieving fellowships, like Dr. Gloria Laws, or Dr.Stacey E. Heindl, who was named Chief Resident in Family Medicine, or Dr. Yang Yang, who in the face of incredible difficulty, graduated and successfully marched into his TOP CHOICE residency as a blind physician, or any number of other Avalon Graduates who make us proud to support them point to them as examples of excellence.

It is obvious now that we in the Avalon Community are immensely proud of our alumni, and look forward to receiving their  updates as they work to make the world a better place after they receive their well-deserved degrees. As we approach a new semester we can’t help but reminisce about the amazing students that Avalon University’s faculty and staff have guided through their medical education and we wonder, “where are they now?”. We recently connected with a few 2023 graduates and have exciting updates to share!

Upon graduating from Avalon University, I embarked on a fulfilling journey at a clinical research facility in Los Angeles. For a year, I served as a clinical rater for various clinical trials while simultaneously strengthening my residency application. My efforts paid off, and I was fortunate to receive several interviews, ultimately matching to one of my top choices: Mountain Vista Medical Center, where I am now an internal medicine resident. Matching at Mountain Vista Medical Center, in Arizona was particularly exciting for me. During my rotations as a student, I fell in love with internal medicine here. The program's commitment to patient-centered care and its supportive learning environment were pivotal in shaping my decision. Additionally, matching into this community-based program allows me to make a tangible difference in the local community, which deeply resonates with my passion for medicine. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Avalon University School of Medicine for supporting me throughout this journey. Their guidance and support have been invaluable, allowing me to now proudly call myself Dr. Sablok. As I reflect on my journey and continue to grow in my field, the words of Maya Angelou remain true: "Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better."

I am thrilled to announce that I have started teaching pathology and neuroscience at a local medical school. It has been incredibly rewarding to engage with students and contribute to their medical education. Additionally, I have taken an oath to practice medicine as a General Practitioner in Curacao. I am working and learning from local doctors so prepare to start seeing patients in a primary care setting, where I look forward to making a meaningful impact on the community's health and well-being of Curacao's patient population. In preparation for my medical residency application, I am diligently studying for the USMLE Step 3, which I will be taking next month. This step is crucial as I strive to advance my medical career and further hone my skills and knowledge. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for AUSOM' continued support and encouragement.
